On the eve of his wedding day, the New Orleans Saints cut five-year vet and fan favorite FB Mike Karney and signed unrestricted free agent FB Heath Evans, who played the last 3+ seasons with the Patriots. Karney's most memorable game was his 3-touchdown performance versus the Cowboys during the Saints run to the NFC Championship game in '06. Evans should prove to be a multifaceted back who will be more involved in Sean Payton's passing game and will also play special teams, which Karney did not.

ReplyDeleteNice find, Otis. He makes a good point that the Saints went for broke with Vilma and J-Shock last season and it didn't help much. I think the FO learned from last year and has taken a different approach. They let the Rams outbid them for a very similar player in CB Ron Bartell. St. Louis paid 28 mill (Bartell) and the Saints paid 23 mill (Greer) for basically the same player.
ReplyDeleteword up. at this time last year, we were overestimating our defense. and even with that defense we may have been in the playoffs with fewer injuries and a better kicker. i say "this is the year" every year, but this year i really mean it. i say that every year, too, but this year i REALLY mean it.
